MOSS compliance software for ferries and passenger vessels.

Your operator plan's pre-departure checks and passenger safety requirements captured on every sailing.

Ferry and passenger vessel operators run timetabled sailings where passenger numbers, crew changes and engine hours build up fast. Shift work across early and late sailings makes crew rest and handovers as important as the maintenance programme. Your operator plan is written for your operation, but most software is not. A tool built from your own plan asks for the records your plan says you keep, and nothing it does not.

What it covers for
ferry operators

MOSS compliance software for New Zealand operators: your Maritime Transport Operator Plan, the records behind it and audit preparation in one tool.

  • Tasks and checks drawn from your own operator plan
  • Logbook, maintenance and crew records in one place
  • Drills, inductions and toolbox talks recorded
  • Incidents, near misses and corrective actions tracked
  • Plan reviews and changes kept with a history
  • Audit preparation by vessel and date range

Built around how ferry operators work

Under the Maritime Operator Safety System, your Maritime Transport Operator Plan sets out how you operate safely, and Maritime NZ audits whether the day to day matches it. We build a tool around your own plan, so the checks, maintenance, crew records and reviews it describes are captured as they happen and ready when an audit comes around.

  • Passenger numbers recorded on every sailing
  • Crew handovers between shifts
  • High engine hours on tight maintenance windows
  • Timetable changes and disruptions recorded

Alongside your vessel software, or instead of it.

We build the tool around how your operation runs, as a web app for the office and an iOS and Android app for the boat, on our own post-trained models where they fit. Keep the software you use today and connect the two, or let the new tool take its place.

*Every engagement is scoped and quoted up front. Results vary by workflow and business.

Good questions, answered

What is MOSS?

The Maritime Operator Safety System is Maritime NZ's safety system for most commercial vessel operators in New Zealand. Operators work to a Maritime Transport Operator Plan and are audited against it. Maritime NZ's own guidance is the authority on what applies to you.

Do you write our operator plan?

No. Your plan belongs to your operation and is prepared by the people responsible for it, with a maritime consultant if you use one. We build the tool that runs the plan day to day.

Can sailing and passenger data come from our ticketing system?

Usually, yes. Sailings and passenger numbers can come in from ticketing, so crew confirm them rather than type them.

How are shift handovers handled?

The outgoing crew's notes, defects and open items are handed to the next crew in the app, so nothing relies on a conversation at the gangway.
