Where AI actually helps lawyers, and where it doesn't.
There's a version of "AI for lawyers" that gets bought off a shelf and quietly stops getting used inside a month.
What changes for lawyers week to week
Lawyers sits within Legal, one of the sectors we build production AI for.
- First-pass contract review and summaries
- Cited research over your matters
- Qualify and intake new matters
- Draft standard letters from templates

From one-person trades to national organisations, we find the hours :)
The questions a public sector buyer asks, answered up front: privacy impact, the NZISM, where the data lives and how an algorithm is held to account.
*Illustrative example based on nine hours a week of admin. Actual results vary by workflow and business.
By the numbers
Canada's overall AI usage sits at 4.37x its expected level, with Singapore leading at 5.53x.
Adoption is already well ahead of the curve, and the edge goes to whoever turns it into a concrete workflow first.
If we build the right slice first, Lawyers feel the difference inside the first month. 0.16% of all Claude.ai conversations map to this kind of work (Anthropic Economic Index, March 2026) Kiwi Dynamics
How it works in New Zealand
We find the one workflow costing Lawyers the most hours, ship a working slice into production in weeks, prove it pays for itself, then harden it and hand it over.
Straight answers
What's the realistic timeline for AI with a lawyers team?
Most Lawyers have their first usable slice in week 5 or 6. We'd rather ship narrow and real than broad and aspirational - your team gets to use the thing well before the engagement is "done".
Do you have proof this works for Lawyers?

What happens if we want to swap a vendor out later?
AI is built behind a small adapter layer specifically so swapping a model provider or a data source is a one-day job, not a re-architecture. First-pass contract review and summaries, Cited research over your matters, Qualify and intake new matters, Draft standard letters from templates are our defaults, but the build is intentionally portable.
What does the Privacy Act 2020 mean for AI?
The same rules apply as for any system holding personal information. A breach that could cause serious harm must be reported to the Privacy Commissioner, who expects it within 72 hours.
Does it keep up with KiwiSaver changes?
It has to. The minimum employer contribution rose to 3.5 per cent on 1 April 2026 and rises to 4 per cent on 1 April 2028.
